Aim

The aim of the Leadership Retreat on Electronic Governance is to build awareness, commitment and consensus amongst the leadership of the nation for Electronic Governance development.

Description

Electronic Governance is the strategic application of ICT for good governance. This involves efficiency and efficacy of government, enhanced public service delivery, increased transparency and accountability, and broader public participation in policy and democratic processes.

The Maldives Leadership Retreat on Electronic Governance is a two-day programme targeted at cabinet ministers and very senior officials of the Government of the Republic of Maldives with the aim of building leadership awareness, consensus and capacity for Electronic Governance development in the country.

Specifically, the retreat will:

  • present and discuss the context, concepts and reasons for Electronic Governance,
  • discuss the roles and responsibilities of various levels of leadership in directing and developing Electronic Governance,
  • show how Electronic Governance can support government leaders in engaging citizens, businesses and the society at large in governance processes, for instance in the formulation, implementation and monitoring of socio-economic policies,
  • discuss the current state and challenges for Electronic Governance development in Maldives, and
  • present a rigorous framework for developing Electronic Governance, from assessment and research, through vision, strategy and program development, to human and organizational capacity building, able to address the challenges present in the Maldives.
